Foreign partnership
The Department of Laser Systems and Advanced Technologies has extensive connections with its colleagues both in Ukraine and abroad. In cooperation with partners, joint scientific research is carried out, specialists of various levels are trained, and national and international conferences are held.
The beginning of international cooperation of the department of laser technology and physical and technical technologies dates back to the 70s of the last century. Thanks to the holding of annual international scientific conferences on the problems of laser technologies and other non-traditional materials processing technologies, the department's contacts with universities and enterprises of the USA, Japan, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Portugal, the Czech Republic, China, Taiwan, etc. have expanded.
Over the years, fruitful cooperation has been established between specialists of the department and colleagues from Jena University (Germany), Birmingham University (Great Britain), Osaka University (Japan), Ohio University (USA), etc. Distinguished specialists from different countries of the world gave lectures to students and teachers: prof. Bill Steen (University of Liverpool, Great Britain); academician of the Academy of Sciences of Japan, prof. Yeshiaki Arata (Research Institute of Welding, Osaka University, Japan); Prof. Franz Schiffer, Dr. Hisbert Staupendahl (University of Jena, Germany); Dr. Lyubomyr Romankiv (IBM company, USA); Prof. Charles Albright (Ohio University, USA), Dr. Ian Spaulding (Great Britain) and others.
Department staff participated in various international congresses, symposia, conferences: ICALEO - International Congress on Applications of Lasers and Electro-Optics, ISEM - International Symposium on Electromachining, LAMP - Laser Application for Material Processing, General Assembly of CIRP (International Institute of Manufacturing Engineers). The worldwide achievements of the department in the field of laser technology were recognized in 1993 by the election of prof. Kovalenko BC as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ohio State University (USA), where he taught for a semester in 1994.
In 1996, professors Kovalenko V.S. and Golovko L.F. were invited by the Laser Institute of America to join the International Editorial Board for the preparation of the International Handbook of Laser Technology (LIA Industrial Laser Handbook, Magnolia Publishing Inc., Orlando, Florida, USA), in which they became the authors of eight chapters of this unique publication .
On August 30, 2008 in Manchester at the final meeting of the General Assembly of the CIRP, prof. V.S. Kovalenko was elected a full member (Fellow).
Since 2005, cooperation with Chinese colleagues from Zhejiang University began. During the years of close and fruitful cooperation, various processes of laser processing of materials were studied, scientific and technical information and specialists were exchanged.
The main object of the research was the creation of a modern technology for the restoration of parts of complex equipment based on the development of a modern robotic laser complex with a powerful diode laser and the transportation of the laser beam using an optical fiber cable.
As a result of the use of this complex, the processes of laser strengthening of the surface, surface alloying, laser surfacing, laser layer-by-layer growth of three-dimensional products, welding of various alloys, etc. were investigated. To select the optimal processing conditions, mathematical modeling techniques of various processes were developed, which made it possible to significantly increase the efficiency of the processes and reduce the duration of the selection of processing modes. Technological processes of micromachining of precision products, in particular medical cardio endoprostheses, were also researched and developed.
In September 2011, Professor Kovalenko and Dr. Anyakin were awarded the highest awards of the People's Republic of China for foreigners - the "Order of Friendship of the West Lake" of the Government of Zhejiang Province and the "Order of Friendship" of the Government of the People's Republic of China.
The Vice Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Zhang Zhangqiu, presents Prof. V.S. Kovalenko "Order of Friendship".
