Defence of the Master's Thesis 2024

At the Department of Laser Systems and Advanced Technologies, on January 16-19, the defense of dissertations of higher education applicants in the educational and professional program of the second (Master's) level of higher education "Engineering of Welding, Laser and Related Technologies" took place. Nine master's degree students who successfully completed the curriculum were admitted to the defense.

Master's theses use modern methods of research and calculations, present real, reliable data that fully reflect all aspects of the activities of the research objects, form independent and original conclusions and proposals, which is the result of the painstaking work of students and their supervisors.

During the report, the dissertation students were accompanied by the use of multimedia equipment, which provided the research materials with clarity and made it possible to assess the level of preparation of each master's thesis. The graduates gave detailed answers to the questions of the commission members.

Chairman of the State Examination Commission, Professor of the Department Leonid HOLOVKO and members of the Examination Committee, Head of the Department, Ph.D., Associate Professor Oleksii KAHLIAK and Ph.D., Associate Professor Viktor ROMANENKO noted the high level of training of masters and the results of their research, a stable trend of improving quality master's theses, relevance, novelty and practical focus of their topics, conscientious work of reviewers and hard work of scientific supervisors.

Indeed, the breadth of scientific and technical interests of applicants, from improving existing technologies to developing new uses of lasers, is noteworthy. The presented master's theses differed both in their scientific direction, for example, the study of the influence of the electromagnetic field on the laser sintering process, or increasing the corrosion resistance of steel through the use of combined laser-ultrasonic processing, and in their focus on practical use - this is the development of surface treatment technologies and the use of lasers for the manufacture of jet engine elements, and laser welding technology for the repair of nuclear power plant steam generators.

Students Denys KUPCHAK and Nataliia SHAMSUTDINOVA, who received diplomas with honors, showed a particularly high level of completion and defense of master's theses. Nataliia SHAMSUTDINOVA was recommended by the State Examination Commission to continue her studies at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education (PhD).

The results of the work of the State Examination Commission showed that the teaching staff of the Department of Laser Systems and Advanced Technologies prepares highly qualified specialists in laser and related technologies with deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their field.
